Why Do Steam Boilers Need Water Treatment?

How Steam Boilers Work
While the objective of all steam boilers is to heat water to generate steam, there are two different types, each with its method of achieving that aim.
- Fire tube – Heat is generated using energy, which is then passed through tubes in the boiler, heating the water around them.
- Water tube – In an opposite method, water is passed through tubes in the boiler while heat is circulated through them, heating the water in the tubes.
Regardless of type, all boilers rely on the use of either electricity or a combustible fuel such as gas or oil to heat water and produce steam. Some operate at a higher pressure than others, and different industries require varying levels of pressure.
The universal factor is the need to control the quality and pH level of the water within the boiler in order to prevent issues such as corrosion, scale buildup or pump failure.
